As a lot of you probably know, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will allow you to transfer your saved data between your 3DS and Wii U. Those who plan to buy both versions of the game will be pleased to know that the transfer is simple. Speaking with IGN, Monster Hunter creator and producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, revealed that you will be required to download a small app on the 3DS. The process is fast and easy; all you have to do is open the app and press a button to perform the transfer - you don't even have to be connected to the internet.

Tsujimoto on the reasoning for having two versions:

Tsujimoto wrote:
There are people who want to play outside with the 3DS version, and also people who want to play at home online; hopefully we can hit both of those audiences at the same time. There will of course also be people who will want both versions.

We’re really hoping that because of the strategy that we have with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate we will be able to reach out to a greater range of fans.

That's pretty cool actually. Makes Nintendo's systems seem a bit more technologically adept.
I wonder if they plan more linking up between games in the future or if this will be a rare case.

I thought the new smash bros would use this very same concept, of course this was a mere statement at E3 it may be scrapped over development.

And who knows, Nano Assault for the 3DS may share the same concept with Nano Assault Neo coming for the WiiU. And I'm on a bit of a stalemate as to if I should just get the game for the 3DS or serve it as a purpose to get a WiiU to play the better looking version.

Sharing save data between games on different consoles is cool though, but riddle me this...
Why would you buy the same game on a different console?

The only answer I can think of is that some people would like to play the same game on the go as well as when they are in the comfort of their home, continuing to play that game on the big screen. This will be more useful if the game has multiplayer because then you can continue playing multiplayer even when you are not home (as long as you have a online connection or some local friends).

Yeah but would you pay 60$ for the same game when you already have the one that most likely cost you 50$ to get for the 3DS?

Probably not (unless it's the new SSB). That's why I said some people in my post. There's always those kind of people who'd like to do that kind of stuff and as well have the money to do so because it doesn't matter to them.

I think the Sony cross-play thing does the same thing where you can play the same game on your PS3 as well as on your Vita and there's probably a few people who own both copies.

Though, they should do some sort of discount (50% off?) at least since buying almost the same game twice is heavy on the wallet.

I bought SSF4 because I wanted to be able to play it on the PC. despite being the same game. I bet a lot of people will pick up both.

I guess people will want to buy the same game on different platforms if they like the game enough or want to support the developpers...
Although I'm not really very keen on Capcom's recent "re-release" traditions.

It's rumoured that Capcom might release some sort of bundle but don't count on it.

I'm not sure about getting both versions even though both have exclusive content. The 3DS version doesn't even support online so I may just go for Wii U.

I have a feeling that this is more for Japanese gamers. Monster Hunter is like COD in Japan and it'll be easy to find a friend to play with locally. Also, most gamers in Japan already own 3G, and a lot of Japanese people are going to buy Ultimate bundled with the Wii U.

The idea of playing my Hunter in both version sound nice, I'll always have a way to hunt down monsters. But the picture shown caught my interest because of the weapon the hunter is holding. A Bow, a weapon not originally in Monster Hunter Tri. I hope that means the other lost weapons will make a return as well. Until then, Capcom you make me proud to still be a loyal fan of your.
