Being released in White, this Wii model has slight alterations from the original model. Unlike the original model that can be placed both vertically and horizontally (though is intended to be placed vertically). This model is intended to be placed horizontally and the width is about as wide as the disc slot.

The new model will be released as part of a new value bundle with Wii Party and Wii Sports included with a Wii Remote Plus controller. A number of other value bundles will be announced this fall.

What this new model doesn't have is GameCube support. So you won't be able to play GameCube games and isn't compatible with the GameCube controllers.

It's set to be released in the UK before Christmas. It's not known yet whether this will be released in other parts as well.

You lost me at "Not backwards compatible with the Gamecube"

Perfectly fine with the Wii I've had since 2008, don't need this.

I honestly hope this is some kind of joke.

Hell, it looks like you'd pay for a downgrade.

I hope for Nintendo's sake that there's more to this model then what the article said.

I think you guys are overreacting. They're not interested in your money; they've already sold a Wii to you by this point. For the people who aren't looking to play six year old games, though, it's probably attractive.

So, why would anyone buy this? Is it going to be really cheap or something? I don't see the appeal. Or as Danny said, are they trying to target the people who don't have one by now?

A Wii that can't play Gamecube games? Now that is just sad; plus, I really don't like it when Nintendo called it the Wii Family Edition. That's just creepy.

OMG. Nintendo is pulling the PS3 trick on us!!!

Don't get this...ever. The original model doesn't have a thing wrong with it. Backwards compatibility might not be a problem but removal of GCN ports?!? Doesn't Nintendo know that's the best way to play some games?

Common, Nintendo is smarter than this. This has to he a joke.

This isn't for people that own a Wii and you're missing the point entirely. Nintendo doesn't sell GameCube controllers in most territories any more and it certainly doesn't sell GameCube games. These features aren't making any sales, they're costing Nintendo money on each console.
