On the 28th of May 1993 Mario and Luigi appeared in a Movie of their own!

STORY: Have you ever wondered why the dinosaurs really became extinct? If you are going to believe the makers of this movie a giant meteor hit earth and plunged the dinosaurs to another dimension were they evolved into humans just like us! In this world a cruel dictator known as Koopa (played by Dennis Hopper) rules. Their world has run low on water and a mysterious fungus have besieged Dinohattan were King Koopa rules. To deal with those problems (and take over the human's dimension) Bowser decides to try to reunite the two dimensions, but to do this he needs all the pieces of the meteor that plunged them to were they are now. Note: There is no evidence that the King Koopa in this movie is in fact the notorious King Bowser Koopa (Mario's arch enemy), but our guess is that they both are the very same person. Bowser has e.g. appeared in various comics and tv series under the name of King Koopa. So therefore I will continue to speak about him as 'Bowser'. Meanwhile In Brooklyn (our dimension) several young women has started to disappear.  Mario and Luigi posing in an elevator in King Bowser´s building. Mario (played by Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (played by John Leguizamo) are working as plumbers in Brooklyn. One day Luigi meets this young archeologist named Daisy (played by Samantha Math's) with which he falls in love. Then she gets kidnapped by Iggy (One of Bowsers children known from SMB3 ans SMW) and Spike (maybe one of the enemies in SMB3 with the same name) which are hired by Bowser, and the action begins! Mario and Luigi follows Iggy and Spike down to the excavation place were Daisy worked and finds a secret teleporter between their world and the dimension were King Koopa rules. The reason why Daisy was kidnapped was that she had something that Koopa wants, the last fragment of the meteor, and with that Koopa he and his army can invade the world! Koopa has a special machine called the "devolution chamber" where he puts all people that aren´t being nice to him. The machine make them go back in the evolution, and because all the creatures' forefathers in this world are the dinosaurs they becomes a kind of dinosaurs called Goombas. With this machine Bowser build up a gigantic army of Goombas to attack the human world!  A Goomba The Goombas are just like in the games: big and frightening, but stupid. If Koopa holds any victim in his machine for a longer time the only thing that will be left of him/her is a slimy fungus! That is what Koopa did to the old King, and it's that fungus that has now besieged the town to revenge Bowser! This fungus is helping Mario and Luigi through the Movie in various ways and in the end Daisy realizes that she is in fact the former King's daughter! The scene when Iggy and Spike represents Daisy to her father (the fungus) is particularly funny! One of the cooler parts of the movie is when Bowser are being put in the devolution chamber and later transforms into a big T-Rex! Toad, our beloved Mushroom guy, also appears in this movie but here he isn't a mushroom just an ordinary musician that later becomes "Goombified" by Koopa because he sings "non-Koopa-friendly-songs"! Yoshi is also seen in the movie, although that he isn´t quite as cute in the movie as he is in the games. Actually he's Bowser's pet! The Bob-Ombs also appears in the movie as small but very effective walking bombs that Mario uses against Koopa. Other things from the games that have been used in the movie are the word "Twomp". One of the bars in Dino Hattan is names the "Twomp bar". Super Mario Bros - The Movie is, although that the story isn't at all what Mario players are used to, a must see for all hard-core Nintendo and Mario fans - to get a few laughs at least! |
