Toad, happy as ever!

Like
every other citizen in the Mushroom Kingdom Toad is a very friendly chap.
Introduction
In Super Mario
Bros 2 (western version) he joins up with Mario, Luigi and Peach to
fight back against the evil Wart and in Super Mario Kart and the
sequel Mario Kart 64 he proved that is not so bad at driving either.
In the NES puzzle game Wario´s Woods Toad had his first (and only?)
lead role when he battled out with Wario in the woods. Toad is one of
Peach´s closest servants.
Kinopio
who?
You might have seen
the word "Kinopio" in some screenshots from Japanese versions
of Nintendo games. Who is this Kinopio then?
Kinopio is really Toad's name in Japan.
It's
not Toad, although it looks like him.
You might wonder
why we haven't added e.g. Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3 in the list of games
that Toad has starred in. In Super Mario Bros 3 he appeared in the Mushroom
Houses giving Mario pow-ups from his treasure boxes, shouldn't we credit
him for that? You might think. The answer is no, because those fellows
sitting there in their Mushroom Houses in each world in Super Mario Bros
3 is just normal Mushroom Kingdom citizens. The same goes for the "Toads"
that you free after defeating Bowser in his castles in Super Mario Bros,
they are Moshroom Retainers. Just because they look like Toad doesn't
mean they are Toad!
The
return of Toad.
You might have noticed
that Toad has started appear in more and more new games. After Mario Kart
64 he was nowhere to be seen, but then he
appeared in Mario Party in 1999, not as a playable character though.
But in the next Tennis game Mario Tennis Toad has joined the other
characters and will now be a playable characters so the future is bright
for all fans of the little Mushroom guy!
