Summary
The Nintendo 64, named after its 64-bit processor also being the first real 64-bit processor on the market, was released in 1996. In development the Nintendo 64 was given the codename "Project Reality" and the slogan "Get N, or get Out!" and throughout its lifetime sold almost 33 million units. The Nintendo 64 still used game cartridges and was released with its best selling game Super Mario 64 selling 11 million units itself, as well as Pilotwings 64. The Nintendo 64 also featured stunning games such as The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time, Mario Kart 64 and GoldenEye 007. Some of these games are arguably the best of their series with GoldenEye being a revolution in first person shooters and being named as one of the best of all time. The console was eventually discontinued in 2002 due to the cost of cartridges; with a decline in market share lack of support and eventually Nintendo releasing its successor, the Nintendo GameCube.
